Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is an iconic movie filled with classic songs. The touring company at present is taking that story around the UK.

The production is slick and the set is so inventive. It is bright and colourful with energetic dance routines performed skilfully by the well drilled cast.
The principals are led by Jason Mansford as Caractacus Potts. I had previously seen him perform in “The Producers” as Leo Bloom which he did an acceptable job at. Here he is again good but not spectacular although his character doesn’t call for amazing things. The rest of the cast were all also talented although I think this show was less about individual performances and more about the overall aesthetic of the piece.

All the songs were well sung although I was slightly disappointed that the childcatcher’s song “kiddie-widdie-winkies” was omitted, it felt like the whole part was played down meaning he lost some of his menace. I loved the big company numbers though.
Overall Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is a feel good show that can be enjoyed by the whole family and this version does nothing to tarnish fond memories of the film.
